It’s Not Lemon, It’s Not Lime, It’s Not Orange, It’s Better
Yuja, also known as yuzu in Japan, is a citrus fruit that is cultivated in Asia. It’s sometimes referred to as “citron.” It’s about the size of a tangerine, and is yellow-orange when ripe. The mature fruit contains a large amount of seeds. The fruit is not usually consumed like an orange, with the rind peeled and the pulp eaten. Like a lemon or lime, it is highly prized for its fragrant zest, essential oil, seeds, and juice. The juice of a yuja is particularly sour, and forms the base for yujacha, a citron tea which Koreans swear by as a cold and flu remedy, and ponzu, a popular Japanese cooking sauce.
The health benefits also spill over into its cosmetic benefits. Yuja has three times more vitamin C than lemon. Vitamin C is essential to the body’s production of collagen, a necessary component of healthy skin, hair, and nails. As a potent antioxidant, vitamin C also reduces free radical damage and boosts the body’s immune system. Yuja’s essential oils have a strong fragrance, which sooths and moisturizes rough skin, as well as relaxes the body and mind. SKINFOOD and yuja are a match made in heaven!
How SKINFOOD Yu-ses Yuja
The yuja fruits in SKINFOOD’s Yuja Water C line are Goheung organic yujas, grown by artisan Taehwa Park, Korea's only and first yuja artisan. Grown with organic fertilizer made from seawater and organic compounds, our yujas boast no pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Healthy skin starts with healthy food, and our yujas are the cream of the crop.
