Back to Basics: The 3 Simplified Yet Essential Steps for Any Skincare Routine

Comment /

It seems every day the cosmetics market is flooded with new and never-before-heard-of products, all of which are advertised as essential and indispensable to your skincare routine. Not only are these products expensive, but our increasingly busy schedules leave us with no time to undertake elaborate multi-step skincare routines daily. Instead, a lot of us end up skipping the whole routine altogether. In reality, all it takes is 3 essential skincare steps to simplify your skincare routine and save you both time and money.

How to simplify your skincare routine:

With the help of the following skincare essentials, you can make your daily skincare routine easy and simple:

Step 1: Cleanser

Cleansing

Cleanser, as the name suggests, it cleans your face by removing make-up, grime, dead skin, and other accumulated impurities. It opens up your pores and removes excess oil build-up. It leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean. It prevents your skin from breaking out and it is known to be a vital defense against pimple and acne build up. It comes in different forms such as foam cleansers, oil cleansers, gel cleansers among many others. Invest in a good quality cleanser that’s gentle on your skin, and which cleans your face without stripping it of its natural oils and moisture. If your cleanser leaves your face feeling overly dry and harsh, it may be time to try a new one.

Step 2: Moisturizer

Moisturizing

You have, no doubt, heard about the benefits of moisturizing. Moisturizer is to your skin what water is to your body. It keeps the skin hydrated, preventing it from drying out. You should moisturize daily, after using the cleanser, to keep your skin smooth and young-looking. Your skin will wrinkle and crack faster if you do not moisturize regularly. The choice of moisturizer depends on your skin type. For dry skin, opt for a creamier moisturizer that’s oil-heavy. For oily skin, use oil-free lotions. Also, do not forget, you should moisturize not just your face, but your entire body.

Step 3: Sunscreen

Sunscreen

While cleansing and moisturizing keeps your skin healthy and youthful, sunscreen can save your life. By blocking out harmful ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun, sunscreen protects you from sunburn in the short run and melanoma (skin cancer) in the long run. For best results, use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more, and make sure to apply it before make-up. It is not advisable to mix or blend your sunscreen and moisturizer as it can make the sunscreen less effective. Sunscreen should be applied every time you go outside, and retouched once every two hours. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you can go without sunscreen indoors; UV rays can cause damage to the skin even when inside the protection of your own four walls. Be safe, and apply sunscreen at home as well. So, no more complicated, time-consuming, and exorbitant skincare rituals—save that for a special occasion. Rather, with just 3 steps for all skin types, you can now rest easy knowing that your skin is being properly cared for.
